Proverbs 3:5-8
Some people trust in guardian angels or lucky charms. Others trust in their parents or spouse, but, what about in God? Do they trust in God? What about you? In what or whom do you put your trust?
We trust when we sincerely believe someone, when we share our most inner secrets with someone, and we expect to not be betrayed or cheated upon. Has this happened to you? When trust is broken, it is very difficult to restore it. Our own emotions can betray us or other people can betray us, but not God. He knows all things and nothing is outside of His control. We like to make all the decisions in our lives, but if we choose to only trust in our own capacity, we will probably be frustrated in some way. If we trust in God, He will make the best of it and we will have inner peace.
When we don’t trust in God, any trouble that arises is a reason for us to feel lost or hopeless. In the Bible, we find the story of David, who was called “a man after God’s own heart.” Even though he received this qualification, David did not always let God guide him. When David did not deposit his trust in God, his inner being was invaded by terrible anguish. In one of the situations, he was inside a cave, alone and distressed, and so he cried out to God, begging for mercy (Psalms 142).
To trust in God does not mean we will be free of trouble. On the contrary, from the moment we take to heart the decision of trusting in the Lord, we suffer constant attacks from Satan. It is in the crisis that God works with more intensity in our life. When fear comes and insecurity knocks at your door, instead of running away from God and fighting with your own limited strength, cry out to the Lord. And when you feel lonely and abandoned, simply trust, because God is sovereign and knows what is best for us.
“And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You” (Psalm 9:10).
Our trust in God puts us above the circumstances or our opinions.
